Initially, it was just a spontaneous idea in the fall of 2019 to move some lonely gray baskets that were placed around the pond at Storsjöhallen to an activity area on Lövön with an outdoor gym and create a smaller loop there.

The municipality was contacted and a dialogue began with Fritid and quite soon also Fritid's operations department in Holmsund.

They liked the idea that something would happen in the area and above all that it could be a new alternative that the school could use for its activities.

At the same time, we (Thomas Björkén and Gustav Germann) went through the area and realized that the environment with different heights,

proximity to exercise tracks, water, open spaces but also areas with dense forest were well suited for a course with more than the 7 baskets that were available.

The dialogue with the municipality continued and we presented the proposal to build the course into a full 18-hole course with a planning period of 2 years.

The municipality's wish at the time was that there would then be an association that would take over responsibility for such a course.

So in December 2019, a number of people (Thomas Björkén, Gustav Germann, Hans Näslund, Johan Lennestål, Ulrika Nordin, Tony Blomqvist and Kim Arvidsson) gathered in a first meeting to lay the foundation for a new association.

Applications were submitted to various bodies and early in 2020, Ace Club Discgolf (AC Discgolf) was formed.

The name is a "game" of letters because we are in an AC county, the dream in disc golf is to get an ACE (throw directly into the basket) and that there is a desire when it comes to sports that the word club should be included.

After several supplementary meetings with the municipality's various departments, Land and Exploitation, Streets & Parks and Leisure, where we also walked around the area together, we finally got the thumbs up from all agencies.

Unfortunately, not all of the planned area was available (some areas were nature conservation areas), which meant that our planned layout had to be changed and the course got a more extended line than planned. A request from the municipality was also that we need to protect and animal and insect life, which means that we have a lot of limitations in the design of the course and how material in the form of fallen trees, etc. is handled.

During the spring of 2020, we got in touch with Linköping Discgolf Club, which was about to change baskets and sold their old ones to us. We received money for this by Umeå Hamn coming in as a sponsor for 18 baskets and we also received sponsorship from Mickes Discgolf and Royal Tatoo.

The recreational operations department in Holmsund with Stefan Nygård as the contact person was an invaluable asset during the first few years when they helped to clear the holes we had planned. They also fixed a number of layouts but also laid footbridges and bridges at the places where we crossed water.

Half the course was completed in 2020 and the remaining holes for the 18-hole loop were completed during the first half of 2021.

At the end of 2021, alternative layouts were also created on the existing course, giving beginners the opportunity to try disc golf on a short-hole loop.

The course has developed over the years and adjustments have been made continuously.

With the help of applied contributions and a new round of sponsors, we have, together with the municipality and committed members

created an activity area for both young and old, beginners and professionals.

The course currently consists of 4 different loops at varying levels.

Advanced (for professionals), Recreation (for casual rounds), Beginner (for schools and beginners) and a putting loop.

The area also has a smaller Driving Range and a gathering area with benches, barbecue area and information boards.

The course is appreciated by many and a good complement to the courses in the surrounding area as this is a forest course with more technology and slightly shorter lengths compared to many other courses with more open areas.

With the help of the municipality, we have used a people counter and calculated the number of passes on the course.

And on average during the season (May-September) we have about 2300 passes.

Autumn storms in recent years have had a major impact on the course and its layout, so some changes to the course layout have been made in the years 2024-2025.

A lift has also been made to the course in the past year with an upgrade of hole signs, next tee but also information signs at our meeting point (starting point).
